Stripe decline code
revocation_of_authorization
The cardholder asked their bank to stop this specific recurring payment, so the bank revoked authorization for your charges.
Primary source: Stripe’s official decline codes reference
Why it happens
- The customer cancelled the subscription via their bank instead of through you.
- They disputed or no longer recognize the recurring charge.
- A misunderstanding about what the charge is for.
Should you retry it?
No — the customer must update their card
The bank will keep declining until the customer re-authorizes. Automatic retries won't help and can look abusive.
How to recover it
Reach out to confirm whether they meant to cancel. If they want to continue, have them re-add a card and re-authorize.
Repeated attempts won't clear this code and risk further declines. Recoverly never auto-retries, and for codes tied to lost, stolen, or fraudulent cards it does not contact the customer at all.
