Stripe decline code

pickup_card

The issuing bank flagged the card to be retained (historically, 'pick up the card'). It cannot be charged again.

Why it happens

  • The bank blocked the card due to fraud or an account problem.
  • The card was reported lost or stolen.
  • The account was closed or frozen.

Should you retry it?

No — the customer must update their card

A card flagged for pickup is blocked by the issuer. Only a different, valid card will recover the payment.

How to recover it

Ask the customer to add a different card via a secure update page rather than retrying the blocked one.

Recoverly does not retry this code. It triggers the reminder sequence with a Stripe-hosted card-update page so the customer can add a working card in one click.
